I see it time and time again all over the internet. Crazy restrictive approaches within the vegan community that’s probably not all that healthy in the end. Then when they start to feel like crap, for some reason they swing full opposite and start adopting the carnivore diet???
If you want to eat this way for optimum health, animal welfare and to use less of the environments space and resources, it’s totally possible to set yourself up for long-term success with the right approach.
Here are some of my top tips so you can avoid making the same mistakes.
1. Not Prioritising Protein
You can’t just survive off cucumber and lettuce leaves. Add substance to salads and stir-fry’s such as quinoa, buckwheat, beans, legumes, seeds, starchy veggies, tofu, tempeh, seitan and more. Bulk it up! This will keep you feeling fuller for longer, maintain muscle mass and help prevent unnecessary snacking.
2. Not Supplementing Correctly
Deficiencies can take 3-6 months to recover from, so keep up your vitamins or even enjoy greens powders for an extra energy boost. Ensure you eat enough well-balanced meals and get yearly nutrient checks.
3. Extreme Dieting
No, you do not need to go ‘keto vegan’ to lose weight. You don’t need to eat only raw foods to feel good or do juice cleanses. You will most likely need to eat more than before as the food is naturally lower in calories.
4. Over-Restricting Due To Food Intolerances
If you can’t consume soy, beans, legumes, nuts, seeds or gluten, you may have a tough time getting in enough protein and ensuring food variety. Perhaps a Mediterranean type style with some fish, chicken and eggs paired with lots of plant foods may be more beneficial for your body.
I talk about this more on my YouTube and Podcast as I follow a 90-95% approach myself which allows me to feel my best physically and mentally.
